Isabelle Ryan is an Irish born Visual Artist who lives and works in Dublin. Her work deals with the sensory and atmospheric qualities of space. Examining a variety of architectural settings, void of physical human presence, and rendering them through the mediums of photography, painting and installation.
By isolating inanimate figures inherent to a specific environment, Ryan creates a sense of atmospheric tension and silence in her paintings and photography, thus illustrating the uncertain energy present in a space. Viewers are left questioning who has been and who may still enter through.
“These instances of quiet solitude are often contradicted in the installation process – with the presence of sculptural forms, found objects or sound juxtaposed against the ethereal paintings. Side by side, they create an immersive experience for the viewer, designed for the eye and the body to interact and respond”.
Ryan is a recent graduate of the National College of Art & Design (NCAD), having studied Fine Art Painting and Critical Cultures.
