James Tebbutt’s work is expressive, gestural and explorative – a continual movement and enjoyment of paint. With varying styles of application (think drips, splatters, flatly painted, thickly layered, graphic and precise to fluid and expressive) James’ viewers find themselves immersed in a world of colour, where imagery and textures jostle together in a sublimely chaotic harmony.

James’ approach to painting is mainly unplanned. He will occasionally sketch colours and compositions in Photoshop, but the work naturally evolves, compositions develop and there are happy accidents that occur along the way.

He expertly combines playful motifs, texts and references to popular culture alongside abstracted and expressive figures and highly graphic elements. We’ve 9 intriguing new paintings available now in James’ gallery collection.
