Megan Wood first joined the gallery back in 2017 after graduating from The Glasgow School of Art. Her work has evolved visually over the years. But her source for inspiration remains rooted with the use of personal and found photographic imagery.
In this new collection of landscape paintings, Megan experiments with materials to manipulate the finished textures and surfaces. Favouring linen for her canvas, she allows oils, acrylics and inks to interact unpredictably. Pigments pool, edges are broken, certain elements leave a shimmer of a sparkle, others give the work a weathered feel.
Megan often mixes bright, vivid colours with softer, more neutral tones, blending the precision of photography with the spontaneity of painting. Her compositions grow naturally, guided by the materials and surfaces as they change. While hints of story, place, or memory appear in her work, her aim is not to depict something specific, but to capture a feeling. Something familiar yet fleeting, just beyond reach.
