Nichola Martin graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in 2007. During her studies, the RSA awarded her the John Kinross Scholarship and the Scottish Education Unit Prize. She used the scholarship to fund time studying in Florence, Italy.
“My work began as a direct reflection of my thoughts and emotions paying particular attention to the surroundings in my home and the everyday objects which encircle me. Almost like an autobiography or a biography, my work relates to my experiences, thoughts and emotions, ever changing and never ending. My work focuses exclusively with light and dark and the effect it has on everyday items within my home I have referred to works by Caravaggio, M C Escher, James Velario, Robert Longo, William Kentridge, Lewis Chamberlain as well as Vincent Desiderio”.
She continues to live and produce work in Fife, Scotland.
