Katherine Benson’s work focuses on the representation of the female form within the domestic sphere. She quickly captures the sitter and the intimate wavering between mystique and the quotidian in oil paint.
“My small-scale compositions offer a glimpse into everyday moments of domestic life with an empathetic gaze. Within these settings, I provide a safe space for my female figures, salvaging a freedom within the home that has become ever more pertinent in our current circumstances. In this way, my work can be read overall as a love letter to women – the women I have grown up with, the women artists I have admired, and the female relationships that have been so important to me”.
Katherine completed her Master of Fine Arts at ECA 2021. We featured her work in our highlight Best of Scottish Art Schools Graduate Show 2021.
