Aberdeenshire born Eilidh Pirie works primarily with soft pastels to create large-scale figure drawings, typically self-portraits.
Eilidh’s work seeks to challenge historical depictions of reclining women in Western art. The drawings represent a reclamation of ownership of the bedroom, depicting the bed as a sanctuary of relaxation and enjoyment. Established imagery is reimagined in this series of self-portraits, granting status and prominence to the female subject.
An ardent exponent of pastel, Eilidh showcases the breadth, versatility and variety of the medium by experimenting with different drawing surfaces. In this series, bedsheets and reclaimed fabrics replace canvas, enhancing the softness and warmth of the works.
Eilidh graduated with a BA (Hons) Fine Art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design ’25. We are delighted to be featuring Eilidh in our BREAKOUTS 2025 show.
