Anya Mooney graduated from GSA with a BA (Hons) Degree in Communication Design and Graphics. She featured in our Best Of Scottish Graduates Show 2017.
Anya’s research-lead project looks at our culture of data sharing; more specifically examining the influence and relevancy of a largely unknown industry – data broking. Data brokers accumulate thousands of data points on nearly every consumer worldwide, which are then analysed and used to detect patterns and make predictions about behaviour. The speed at which the industry is moving means it is ambiguous and largely-un-regulated; while individual countries have varying privacy laws in place, there is no global legislation. Consumer data is free to collect but is a multimillion pound profit industry for those companies harvesting it. Data Monopoly intends to encourage a public discussion over how we want our data to be collected, mined and sold.
