The Cut-Ups series aims to consider the relationship between photography, painting and digital. Frew was initially inspired by Pantone charts when investigating these works. By using fragmented photographs as a sort of palette, he also hoped to reflect the precise nature of digital colour found in HEX Numbers, CMYK, and RGB charts. The rigid, grid structure found in these works also reflects a technological narrative.
