Original ink and watercolour on canvas, 2020. To create the effect of snowflakes, Shanshan has used the natural element of ‘fire’ to burn away areas of the canvas, exposing the white board behind.
The painting is ‘framed’ using a traditional Chinese method – the canvas is laid onto board and secured in place by rice paper that is double wrapped around each edge.
