For this work, Macrae has drawn inspiration from Merry-Joseph Blondel’s “The Sun. The fall of Icarus” 1819 on the ceiling of the Rotunda of Apollo, in the Louvre. The powerful compositional elements of Blondel’s Icarus feed into the central placement of the figure.
