"Leatherdermy: Wolf and Widow"
"Leatherdermy: Wolf and Widow" is a photographic embossment of spiders on gunmetal metallic leather. Embossment achieved using a deeply etched steel plate. Stretched onto board.
This work is a reference to the practice of Taxidermy within the Cabinet of Curiosity. However, in keeping with my themes of melancholy and beauty in the imperfect, this work defies the standard presentation of a Taxidermed animal, but still accomplishes the function of exhibiting death in a fascinating/"beautiful" manner. The imagery delivered is more true to how a dead creature may be found: fractured and incomplete, contrary to the typical stuffed animals, but no less interesting for that.
